BHARATIYA SAMAJIK CHINTAN

Bharatiya Samajik Chintan is a forum for articulation, analysis and debate of issues— which concern the nation— by natural scientists, social scientists, doctors, engineers, technologists, social activists, research scholars, students and others. It publishes contributions— in the form of articles, comments on published articles, book reviews, and letters to editor— from established intellectuals as well as young scholars. The papers/articles will be selected on merit for publication. However, only such articles which attempt to make some theoretical methodological contribution or which have immediate applied value, will be published in this journal.

Instructions to Authors

Authors submitting a paper do so on the understanding that it has not been published previously, nor is it being considered for publication elsewhere. A declaration to that effect, signed by (all) the author(s) must accompany the manuscript. Manuscripts should be sent to the Editor.
l Submission of the manuscript implies that the authors agree to assign exclusive copyright to the Indian Academy of Social Sciences (ISSA) as soon as the manuscript is accepted for publication. The work shall not be published elsewhere in any language without the written consent of the ISSA. l Contributions may be made only to the following categories : Comment, Book Review, Letter to the Editor, Theoretical Research Articles and Report of Case Studies. l Contributions may be submitted via e-mail<psaumya@vsnl.net>. l Submit the manuscript in triplicate. l Manuscripts should be composed in MS WORD or PAGEMAKER6.5. The diskette along with the hard copy containing an exact copy of the manuscript must be accompanied by two photocopies. l The contribution should be submitted in English. The author must ensure that the spelling is consistent—be it British or American. l The journal does not hold itself responsible for loss or damages to manuscripts in transit. l Contributions should in most cases not exceed 10 printed pages (approximately 700 words per printed page). Additional pages must be paid for by the author at the rate of Rs. 100 per page. Payments should be remitted to the Managing Editor by a demand draft drawn on Kolkata in favour of Indian Academy of Social Sciences or cheque issued by a Kolkata branch of a bank. l Authors are solely responsible for all views expressed in their work. Statements and opinions expressed in their contributions are not necessarily those of the Editor, publisher or the ISSA. l Each paper must be accompanied by an Abstract not exceeding 100 words. l Each paper must contain (i) a concise informative title, (ii) name(s) of author(s), (iii) institutional and departmental affiliation of the author(s), (iv) a short title if the title exceeds 30 letters and (v) the name and address of author to whom correspondence about the manuscript should be referred. E-mail address of the author(s), if available, should be mentioned. l Tables should have short explanatory headings and they should be numbered as Table 1, Table 2 etc. Number of Tables should be kept to a minimum. l Diagrams should be in a form suitable for direct reproduction. They should clarify the text and their numbers be kept to a minimum. Acknowledge all illustrations/tables/diagrams reproduced from other publications. l References appearing in the text should be given in the form [Radhakrishna 1991], [Dev et al 2000] etc. At the end of the text, authors' names cited in the text should be alphabetically arranged and they can be listed as in the Example : Bardhan PK, 1985, The Political Economy of Development in India, Basil Blackwell, Oxford : 191-206. They are required to obtain written permission from enveryone acknowledged by name so that readers may infer the endorsement of the data and conclusions by the persons acknowledged. l We do not supply offprints. An author of a published paper will receive one copy of the particular issue. l Book for review.
